Technology Start-ups Connect With Resources at ATDC. HR Professionals Connect Through SHRM Atlanta

We opened the show with Nina Sawczuk from Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC) – the ATDC helps connect technology start-ups with the resources they need to succeed.  Nina is the General Manager of ATDC, and she discussed Georgia’s technology industry, shared insight on the burgeoning local tech startup scene and provided tips for young entrepreneurs.

Next up we had on Mary Lynn Miler with SHRM Atlanta.  Mary Lynn is a Certified Association Executive (CAE) who started her association management career in 1981.  Since coming to SHRM-Atlanta, Mary Lynn has worked with volunteer Board and leadership, and the staff team, to grow SHRM-Atlanta 40% since 2006 and has achieved 22% improvement in member satisfaction.  She was also involved with SHRM-Atlanta launching a quarterly print magazine, monthly electronic magazine, webinar offerings, and a revamped sponsorship program, among other new member benefits and events.  If you are a human resources professional who wants to connect with other HR professionals then you should check out the next SHRM Atlanta event.

And we closed the show with Layne Davlin with Einstein HR.  Layne explained that most business owners never went into business to deal with payroll and HR issues. He recommended that you outsource the things that don’t make you money, focus on the one’s that do! Outsourcing the non-productive tasks greatly benefits the employer through increased focus on revenue producing activities.

Atlanta Marketing Experts Kevin Sullivan with Fisher and Phillips, Erik Balkan with The Boss Group, Robert Reed with The Social Eclipse, Pena Global’s Rico Pena and Fitness Specialist Fadi Malouf

Today we opened with Kevin Sullivan with Fisher & Phillips. Kevin is an Atlanta marketing expert who specializes in marketing lawyers and he shared his thoughts on the challenges of marketing professional service firms.  Professional services organizations such as law firms and accounting firms offer some unique challenges for marketing departments. Professional service firms are selling expertise and time – not things. Marketing professionals must clearly understand their firms and their audiences in order to clearly communicate how the professionals can help potential clients.

Next we had on Erik Balkan with the BOSS Group. Erik shared some insights from both a talent and client point of view regarding staffing creatives. He works closely with Atlanta marketing and advertising professionals everyday.

Then Atlanta social media and marketing expert Robert Reed with the Social Eclipse and Rico Pena came on to discuss their upcoming Stay in the Game Summit event being held this weekend. Today we learned all about business networking from Chief NetWeaver Bob Littell. Bob shared some tips about business networking from his NetWeaving Ambassador Program which is soon to be available in colleges around Atlanta and the rest of the country. The first thing he explained was the difference between business networking and NetWeaving. Bob is a busy guy who wants to share his message about the power of relationship building and how having a “Pay it Forward” mentality can help you grow your business.

Today we opened the show with a couple of  Atlanta’s top Certified Public Accountants Bruce Paulk and Gary Clayton with Clayton Paulk and Associates CPA firm.  They shared a ton of business planning tips that they use to help their clients prepare for life’s uncertainties. They talked about how they work with their business owner clients to create a checklist that helps them with their succession planning, risk mitigation, disaster planning and other important stuff that most business owners don’t spend enough time thinking about. If you are looking for a business CPA firm that does more than your taxes you should really check these guys out.

Next up we had an in depth conversation about short sales and the foreclosure process with Closing Attorney Matt Dickason with Dickason Law Group and Renovation Loan Specialist Brian Stephens with Wells Fargo Home Mortgage. Many Atlanta short sale sellers have homes that have not been maintained and they do not have the funding necessary to bring the homes up to good condition. Renovation loans allow the buyer to buy a short sale “as is” and then have funds added to their purchase mortgage to have the home renovated after closing

Today we had Lewis Mann with Atlanta Home Care Partners host a Senior Services Resources Special. Lewis explained the importance of having a senior resource team to help you deal with your eldercare services challenges

His guests who specialize in senior services were Victoria Collier with Collier and St Clair, an elder and special needs law practice.  He also interviewed Scott Anderson with Trivest Construction, an aging in place and special needs architectural modifications specialist. Former ACT! co-inventor Mike Muhney who is now with with VIPorbit Software International explained the importance of cultivating a quality business relationship rather than lots of superficial acquaintances. He also explained the difference between a social network and a personal network. Mike shared some simple ways how his software and iPhone app help you develop more effective relationships with your clients as well as your sales prospects. He wasn’t to fond of LinkedIn as a way to grow your business. And remember this guy knows what he is talking about – Mike not only was involved with the creation of ACT! the CRM product that has been attributed as the catalyst for the entire Contact Management industry, he’s devoted his entire career to help the business professional cultivate high quality relationships.  And be on the look out for his new book which details how successful business depends on successful relationships.

Next up we had on Robert Owens and Gregory Viviers with Grand Champion BBQ. These guy are taking East Cobb by storm – the AJC recently named their Mac and Cheese the best in Atlanta.
